Once you have come up with a good topic, the next step is to come up with a research paper outline. The
research paper outline will help you
have focus while you are writing and researching. Your paper has to have a
logical flow. An organized paper will have all the ides presented and argued
out in an orderly manner according to the topic.
Basically, the standard
research paper outline is made of the introduction, body and then
conclusion. No matter how you modify your presentation style, the research
paper will have to follow this format. There is no way one can start with a
conclusion before the introduction. As much as the topic will guide you in terms of what to research on, the outline
will help you not to leave out any important points.
Introduction
The introduction should tell the reader what to expect in
the paper. It gives the reader the gist of why you are tackling that given
subject. You will need to come up with a thesis statement and present it at the
introduction or place it immediately after the introduction.
The body
The body contains the flesh of the paper. Your ideas have to
be presented in order. Every new idea should be introduced in a new paragraph.
Then go ahead to give the strong points that support it in a paragraph or two
depending on the desired length of your paper.
The body should be divided into subtitles and not written as
one long narration. This way the reader knows what you are talking about. It
makes it possible for one to peruse through your document and get a feel of the
content.
Conclusion
The conclusion is your final thoughts on the subject based
on everything you have discussed in the body. New ideas should never be
presented in the conclusion unless they are being referred to as part of the
findings of your research.
